The diplomat Henri de la Martinière conducted several archeological expeditions in Volubilis in the early 1880s.
This symbolic photograph seems to highlight the frontier between two worlds: the world of Juba, king of Volubilis, who married a daughter of Cleopatra, and the infinite world known in those times as Barbary.
